Technology you can count on

It is nice when you can rely on technology. I am always willing to pay a “little more” to get stuff that simply does what it should do and that does not make me problems. To carry some private data with me I bought a Kingston DataTraveler USB stick about 1 ½ years ago. I carries it at my key chain to have some important data at home and at work. Maybe you cannot easily spot why I am writing this post in the picture I took from my stick.

Kingston USBThe Internet loves the stick because of its durable metal case. Oh, it is durable already. What you can see in my photo is the current condition of my stick: it is empty! At some time during this week the insides, the chip, the board, the connector, all fell out of the case! Gone. All that is left is an empty metal case looking like an USB stick. Great!

Well, I suffered from data lost in the past. Thus I have my backups. Even the security relevant data is no problem, thanks to my preparations and the possibility to revoke certificates. Nevertheless. It is annoying. Let’s see what stick I will by for my key chain as replacement. … Likely the same one again. The case was nice and durable.
